Company History: The CS&IR was formed in 1902 with the merger of the Colorado Springs & Suburban Railway and the Colorado Springs Rapid Transit Railway. It was a 38 mile electric interurban and streetcar system serving Colorado Springs, Old Colorado City, Manitou Springs, Ivywild and Roswell, Colorado. The fleet included 56 powered streetcars and interurbans and 13 trailers. CS&IR began replacing streetcars with buses in 1931, completing the conversion in less than a year. Workers from the WPA pulled the rails up from the streets a few years later.
